Andrea
Andrea has been spinning records for a while now. Vinyl junkie
by definition, his love for black music in general and Jamaican
sound in particular, is obsessive to say the least. Expect
every kind of music, from glitchy electronica and dub to hip
hop afrobeat and jungle, passing through soul, funk and reggae.
Dub & Bass with Andrea, Tuesday night, 20:00 -
22:00
Andy
Bgpz If you've ever been to a SoxaN, you'll know BGPZ
likes things that make you go "Tune!" - from the
sublime to the bleedin' silly, regardless of genre. Expect
warmth, soul and lots of fun, encompassing obscure, retro
and bleeding-edge moments alike.
Back
of the Bucket Back of the bucket has been entertaining
the people of Milton Keynes for about twenty years (Yes really!).
With an ever-evolving roster of DJs the mixing is always searching
for that elusive perfect mix. Throwing together Dub, Ambient,
Jazz, Dance and anything else that falls into their hands
bucket mixes are often surprising. Current DJs : Melvin Pickles,
Rick, Paul, Maff. More
info on Back of the Bucket.
Back of the Bucket - Thursday 23:15 - 00:45
Ben
McCormick
Ben has been playing records regardless of (some would say
in spite of) the audience's reaction for some years now. This
show takes its name from a song by The Fall, whose shambolic,
almost slap-dash approach Ben will try to emulate through
the medium of his record collection. His young family will
hinder wherever possible.
Rebellious Jukebox with Ben, Thursday night, 20:00
- 22:00
Billy
Idle
Reg aka Minke aka Billy Idle has been a music nerd for over
25 years now. Although these days he mainly plays lounge and
exotica, his first show for Purple Radio will be a chance
to delve into his collection, and dig out some of the records
he grew up listening to.
Mr
Black Ageing disco dolly/mindless killing
machine Mr Black does his best to keep it balearic (whatever
that means) every Friday night from 10 ‘til 2. Do tune
in, there's a love.
Nocturnal Emissions, Friday,
10
'til midnight
Bob
Johnston
Bob Johnston aka King of the delta blues is brand new to this
whole DJing malarkey but has been passionately collecting
and listening to music for years.
Interested in a whole range of music, his
taste of late has been predominantly at the two opposite ends
of the musical spectrum. In one corner folk/country tugging
at your heartstrings, and in the other techno to help you
forget that it's Monday. Tune into his show to hear him try
and link the two together in a way that won’t make you
cancel your internet subscription.
A wee bump of Bob, Mondays, 18:00
- 20:00
Boss
With early influences from Bach, Mozart and Handel as a chorister,
through his teenage years in the Seventies as a wannabe rockstar
listening to Floyd, AC/DC, Zappa etc, Boss eventually became
involved in the electronic music game in the mid nineties.
Initially operating the lighting rig for Mayhem throughout
the North of England, he progressed to producing and performing
live, with amongst others, the Mayhem DJ's, Amoeba Assassin,
Mark EG, Digs and Whoosh, and the Airtight DJ's.
Maybe attending the Last 7 Big Chill UK events
has mellowed and influenced his tastes somewhat? Have the
Wurzels, Chas and Dave and the Ukelele Orchestra twisted his
perception totally? Tune in to find out.
The Beaufort Scale
Purveyors of delicately-crafted tranquil musical landscapes, The Beaufort Scale, aka Lovechile and Noizy, offer to take you on a veritable magical mystery tour of eclectic saturday-night mayhem every fortnight on Purple Radio, 1-3am.
Lovechile is a long-standing Big Chill supporter and contributor. He has worked on Big Chill radio at the Eastnor festival and is a regular forum contributor. Lovechile also records under the alias Edificial.
Noizy has also worked on Big Chill radio and is a regular at Big Chill events. A skilled DJ and producer, he also works with electronic dub band Delta 9 (Juice FM), techno act Static Headspace and is a formative member of the band NoizreverzioN (Anticat Records / Unlabel).

musically open minded. Never predictable but always flowing,
deep and eclectic. Expect to hear beautiful music hand picked

of genres.
DJ Mixes, live guest mixes, new tracks - the sky is the limit.
Buzz Rozwell + Upstairs
crew & guests
Sunday fortnightly 19:00 - 21:00 London time
Creeeday
Creeeday has only been collecting records for a few years, but
he caught the bug something rotten, and with a student loan
in one hand and an overdraft in the other he is gradually building
a collection of everything from jazz to funk & soul, to
hip hop, to latin, reggae and even the occasional bit of Brazilian
drum and bass. Learning his trade as a student in hull, the
adventure (and debt) has only just begun...
Dadaist
Dadaist and occasional miscreant collaborators present outsider
audio for your inner raver
Duck
The other half of Big Chill Bar residents and all-round party
idiots
Bam Bam, Duck is a gibbering idiot with lots of records.
Will be showing up on Purple Radio on Sunday
afternoons, approximately once a month if we're lucky, and
more often than that if we're not.
eleventhirty 8 ElevenThirtyEight is the musical partnership of Delesh Chauhan and Stu Holland. We use a combination of computers, musical instruments, and a little technical voodoo, all at once to put our own spin on the traditional dj performance.
Monthly Tuesday night slot 8-10
Getafixx
Getafixx plays a range of beautiful and blissful electronica,
idm and ambient tracks with a sprinkling of voice/film/foly
samples that add to the emotional roller-coaster of the
aural mix. Taking inspiration from the Future Sound of London's
radio broadcasts, as well as from the philosophy of sample
anything if it sounds right, getafixx creates music mixes
that are far more than just mixes, but they have to be listened
to not just heard, they provoke thought as well as sooth
the soul.
Guey
A music geek for over thirty years, Stuart will be plucking
delights from his personal wall of sound for your delectation,
delight, or possibly despair.
Expect anything from ‘30s blues to ‘00s electronica,
via disco, jazz, punk funk, and whatever falls to hand.
The
Gwyn
Elias Ohmbugler (better known to many as Gwyn "The
Gwyn" Moxham) has been delighting audiences at free
parties, stately homes, bars and clubs since 1999, a year
in which he partied like it was just that, 1999.
Back then his style was all about fusing
drum 'n bass beats with the finest acid jazz / nu-jazz flavours,
but as certain factions of d'nb started to bruk up the beat,
Elias became increasingly drawn to the West London sound,
now perhaps the cornerstone of a nutritious aural diet that
includes everything from ambient wibbling via detroit techno
and heavy jamaican dub to japanese jazz.
His eclectic 'Refocus' show, originating
on the now defunct (but formerly fully funkt) Purplicity, has returned in force to the mighty Purple
Radio.
Catch it when ever you can!
Hoodlum
Tribe
With presenters Hoods and Dunk le Chunk, Hoodlumtribe Radio
is a heavy contrast of musical influences ranging from Duncs
folk driven blues and charity shop finds through to the discohiphoplatinafrobeat
wonders of Hoods concrete collection. They slag each others
records off then play some more good music, occasionally at
the right speed.
Hoodlum Tribe, every Wednesday, 22:00 - 00:00
The
svelte one
Faced with the prospect of a monthly radio show, the svelte
one was torn between the twin beasts of a huge and unruly
music collection and a need for structure and limits. Her
solution? Focus her monthly show on What's Going On In Her
Life Right Now. Expect reviews of gigs and festivals, tunes
from new albums and recently re-discovered gems from the past.
Everything from glitch to guitars with the occasional bit
of 'serious' music. Just for summut different, innit.
Jez
Wells
Infected with 80s soul, funk and disco and 60s electronica
as a child, and then exposed to dangerously high levels of
weapons-grade electronic dance music, Jez will be wheeling
the throbbing couch into your living rooms
once a fortnight as part of his ongoing treatment. Expect
deep, groovy stuff with big production values.
Don't expect a cure. www.jezwells.org
Throbbing Couch - Every other
Saturday night, 7-9 pm
Lenodd
Monthly show 'The Saturday night in' with Lenodd encompasses
everything from Detroit techno and drum & bass to disco, house,
breaks & beats plus some downtempo numbers for all you clapped
out ex-ravers.
It's your chance to join us for a beer,
a smoke, some choice tunes and a disregard for radio etiquette.
More than ample support is on hand from fellow
collective discharger, obsessive covers collector and
all round caner, Mr Lovely.
Marcus
Easing you into Sunday, Marcus starts off a bit slow and then
goes a bit faster. It's Attention Deficit radio and anything
goes.
The Ritalin Sessions, every other Sunday morning,
10:00 - 12:00
Mark
Williams
Broadcasting from a hill high above Bristol join Mark Williams
as he tries to ease your end of weekend pain with a lush selection
of head nodding foot tapping beard stroking ambience. Nice.
Mark Williams plays fortnightly on Sunday
night from 21:00 - 23:00
Marky
Having spent much of the last 10 years playing at student
parties, Marky's now attempting to become semi-credible by
sharing the music he actually enjoys. Expect hip-hop, jazzfunksoul,
disco, electronica, folk, indie, downbeat, house/breaks and
all sorts of other treats - accompanied by the patter of someone
who sounds like they DJ'd on pirate radio stations in '88
- as he delves into the (slightly) better side of his record
collection.
Marky's show goes out every other Friday, 20:00 -
22:00
Monty
Monty's formative DJing career started in the early nineties at the seminal ‘Beehive Pub Christmas parties’. After a hiatus, Monty was lured out of DJing retirement in 2006 by Mooch!n to offer occasional support at their bi-monthly underground house nights at Plan B & Babalou in Brixton, and he now masquerades as a purveyor of Balearic beats and early disco & house classics.
Most likely to be found broadcasting on Purple Radio on a Friday night on the rare occasions when one of the regulars finds something better to do with their weekend...."
Myles
Myles first taste of DJ'ing was back in the earlier 90's while
running
a bar on the Greek island of Rhodes. Since then Myles has always
tried to maintain an eclectic beach vibe with his selections.
So if you've got the Tuesday blues tune into the Mojo and get
over it!! Myles, Tuesdays, 22:00 - 00:00
Dr
Piz
Like Dr. Fox, but less qualified. I’ll be performing earhole
surgery to try and banish your Monday seratonin dip. You’re
victim to my quarter inch tape collection I'm afraid, so expect
anything from Quirk ‘N’ B to Plip Plop, all smeared
together with a pebbledashing of ear candy (all Jingle Massive
hold tight!) Music is baggage…
Dr Piz, Mondays, 20:00 - 22:00
Remote
Remote (James) has been chasing the vinyl since his metal
years. He 1st got behind the decks in 1994 and has since played
at venues and parties all over London and Cornwall. Currently
a resident dj at Digital
City he also regularly turns up as dj support
for Belleruche.
Expect tunes from across the board, and special guests. woohooo!
Flytime with Remote, Wednesday night, 20:00 - 22:00. Like drivetime, but slightly toasted and with less
ginger.
King
Rob
"Rob on the Radio" first graced the airwaves in autumn
1993, giving the students at Sussex University a reason to go
out on a wednesday afternoon. Back then the show had no particular
musical direction, and sounded like it was thrown together at
the last minute. Nothing much has changed, except that now Rob
has a much record collection to entertain you with.
Rob on the Radio, Monday night, 21:00 - 23:00
Ringo
Ringo has been obsessively collecting reggae since the mid
80’s and playing parties, clubs and sound systems for
20 years.
Ten years of chaotic nonsense as one
half of the Muppet Sound System has done absolutely nothing
for his attitude, professionalism or short term memory. Expect
an eclectic range of scratchy records. From Jamaica. Mainly
from 1974 to 1981. Recorded at Channel One. Just after tea
time.”
Savannah
Savannah has built up a wealth of fantastic music over the
years and is enjoying unleashing it on the lucky listeners
of Purple Radio. She is likely to play whatever takes her
eclectic fancy, be it indie, folk, reggae, funk, dub, electronica
, or psychedelic rock.
After an excellent year with gigs at The Prince (Brixton),
Big Chill Bar & House and on Big Chill FM she's now got
some suitably warming, toasty tunes to ease you through winter.
So, allow her to soothe your ears every fourth Sunday
on Purple Radio from 12:00 – 14.30. You can also hear
her as 1/2 of the hot n stricky show on the second sunday
of the month at the same time...
Soundbird
She's small, pesky, Northern and may play Kiss.
Whatever she plays, it'll be random and fairly rammely.
Regular monthly Wednesday slot 8-10.
You may like it.
Supine
Supine plays late night music for late night folk. Tune
in to hear quality music from the last 40 years or so.
Simple rules: No genre. No planning.
No continuous linear 4/4. Quality music without the chat.
Late night afterparty sessions.
Expect to hear soulful gems mixed
with skanking reggae 7"s, acidic bosh, dubstep and underground
future disco classics.
Plenty of guest dj's turn up to get
into the mix for the late night sessions.
Previous guests have included Placid,
Bam Bam, Peej (DiY), Matthew Clarke (Keep On Magazine),
Alex Trasca (MHYH), Phantom Beats (Plastic Raygun) & Schmoov!
amongst others.

are planned for 2008. Stay up late and check it out. Ch
