Myles Mystery Mix 18th Jan 2007

So back at the end of 2006 Mr Black  got in touch with a load of us on the Big Chill Forum and asked us to put a mystery mix together in the same vein as the ones done on the wonderful DJ History board. The plan was to upload them in a ‘hidden’ state to the ace Mixdownloads site that Kris Burford had put together and at 10 o’clock on a Thursday night unhide them and everyone would start listening in at the same time and attempt at guessing the tunes first on the forum. Now that we have the 24/7 radio stream going it all seems a bit archaic but it actually worked pretty well. Anyway mine was about the 5th one to go and at that time I wasn’t really playing out or putting mixes together but as ever was still collecting tunes. The mix went down well and really raised my enthusiasm for DJ’ing for other people instead of my close circle of friends.  Here’s the mix I did ….

Jean-Luc Ponty – Eulogy To Oscar Romero
No-Man – Days In The Trees(Reich)
Jam & Spoon Hispanos In Space
Raul Orellana – Entre Dos Aguas (The Night Time Mix)
Izit – Stories (The Mellow Mix)
The Times – Lundi Bleu (The Grid “Praise The Lord” Mix)
Supermax – African Blood (Part II)
Paul McCartney – Check My Machine
Cash Money & Marvelous – Find An Ugly Woman
Dexter B & Malarky – Drug Talk
Lord Cobra & Pana-Afro Sounds – “Rocombey”
Paul Davidson – Midnight Rider (Tropical)
Gregory Isaacs – Cool Down The Pace
Tony Tuff – Have Good Times; Ranking Joe – Big Long Cock (Greensleeves)
Jah Wobble’s Invaders Of The Heart – Wine, Women And Song

Anyway off the back of the success of all the Mystery Mixes Blackie got a monthly  Sunday session together down at the Big Chill Bar in Brick Lane, London where all Mystery Mixers could go and play some of these tunes to a real audience. I was lucky enough to be put on the very first one…

Being from the Wirral I had hardly been in London much so this was ace. A couple of mates came along with me and we got wrecked and had a boss time. Anway the reason for the whole of this post is that my mate Jules has just given me this little video from that day which amused me and I thought if you were there you may enjoy…….
