Purple Radio’s End of Summer Rinse Out

Purple Radio's End of Summer Rinse Out

Purple Radio @ The Dogstar and Big Chill bar, October 17/18

PR_BCS1009

Hola!

A fair few of our crew are celebrating birthdays during October, so that’s reason enough for a very big mash up (like we need an excuse, anyway).

Saturday 17th’s knees up is upstairs at the newly refurbished Compass, Islington, followed by a recovery/carry-on-raving session at the Big Chill bar, off Brick Lane, the next day.

Purple Radio DJs will be manning the decks, so see you on the dancefloor.

Cheers

Purple Radio

Purple Radio Presents Jon Kennedy – Friday, 25 Sept, Chester!

PR_CHESTER0909Come and join Purple Radio at the Frog and Nightingale in Chester for a night of cosmic disco/ beats / funk/ deep house and Balearic grooves.

We have special guest Jon Kennedy almost certainly one of the 3 most talented men in all of Stockport. Jon is a man on a musical mission. What the end result may be remains a bit of a mystery, not least to the man himself but rest assured it includes an enormous bag of breath-takingly beautiful tunes, copious rump-shakingly fine dancefloor corkers and a hatful of innovative ideas bordering on musical genius.
He’s certainly a talented chap.

Aardvark to Zebra presents… What Carnival?

atoz_0809_flyer

As the denizens of Notting Hill up sticks and bugger off to the country while their patch is invaded by mooing hordes, so the Aardvark to Zebra carnival float, err, floats down to The Green for another all-day beats, eats and booze-a-thon. Forget trying to shuffle with ‘rhythm’ down Ladbroke Grove with the thrill-seeking thousands and head for Clerkenwell instead, where you’ll be guaranteed the same party vibe without the same level of intense claustrophobia.

Spinning the discs that risk this month are:

Bgpz. Digger, Dixy, Ketsbaia, Lenodd, Marts and Monkaiboy.

Musics kick off at around 3pm, but don’t let that stop you getting there early and taking advantage of the Green’s fantastic lunchtime menu. Rumour has it there’ll be a meal deal and cider promotion down there, but as yet that’s unconfirmed.

Digital City at The T Bar, 23rd July 2009

Dub Kult (live), Jon Hopkins (DJ set), Tentonatom, BarryDark and Remote

Visuals: Parallax + Dr Mo
9pm till 3am – Free entry all night long

Audio-visual party poppers, Digital City return to the all new T Bar with our unique brand of swanked-up warehouse revelry. And boy, do we return with a treat.

When a young producer by the name of Jon Hopkins first played for us, he commuted from his mum’s house in the countryside. This time he returns from Sydney where he’s been playing in the Opera House in a one-off band with Brian Eno and Underworld. It was Brian Eno that ‘discovered’ his bold electronic walls of synths, lustrous melodies and amorphous bass rumbles a few years back (no it wasn’t- it was Digital City!). Anyways, since then Mr Eno’s got him producing Coldplay’s last album, collaborating and exchanging remixes with the likes of Herbie Hancock and David Holmes, touring the world and getting invited to all manner of high-brow musical showcases from Sonar to Saddlers Wells to Ether.

Did we say this would be a treat!? Add to this a live set from Dub KULT- the legendary producer of sometimes deep, sometimes hard techno- but always infused with some kind of off-kilter alien funk. Dub KULT doesn’t just do looping bangers, and he doesn’t get lost in self-indulgence, but he does produce superbly funky, danceable yet lush music that has both attitude and soul. No wonder he gets such props from the likes of Ricardo Villalobos, Andy Weatherall and Sven Vath and now records on influential German labels Traum and Raum…Musik.

Support comes from Digital City’s resident DJs, BarryDark, Tentonatom and Remote fusing all that is electronic from afro to electro. Flanked by a matrix of projection screens, the visual quality is represented by Big Chill resident VJ, Dr Mo and Parallax.

This is a rare (legal) Digital City foray into East London, having started life in the bedraggled penthouse of an industrial tower block overlooking Canary Wharf many moons (and spangled dawns) ago.
