Wired for Sound

We thought we’d provide just a few pointers to help you get the best out of the Purple Radio stream, because God-forbid you’re still listening via tinny laptop speakers *mock horror*. Yes we know that headphones are the sensible option if you’re tuned in at work but if you’re listening at home you’re just being selfish by not sharing the music at very high volume with the rest of your household and neighbours, regardless of what time of day or night it is.

Okay, so here’s some hopefully useful info./options to get you going:

Fancy Internet radio: still fairly expensive but there’s a few suggestions here from Purple Radio DJs (those with more money than sense, mainly) who’ve gone with this very show-off option.

An iPhone/iPod Touch/docking station combo is a great, mainly hassle-free way of tuning in. This is the route I’ve recently taken in the kitchen so family meal times are now also Purple Radio time (no talking). It’s very easy to connect; you just visit the PR website, click on one of the listening links at the top of the home page, plonk your chosen device into the docking station and away you go. Instant music \o/

Hi-fi connection. If you do have the option of being able to connect to a home hi-fi/separates set up – which is by far the best way to listen in my opinion – then a 1 x 3.5mm stereo plug to 2 x phono lead will be required in order to connect your PC/laptop/Internet radio/phone via the audio out or heaphone socket to the line in connection at the rear of your hi-fi amplifier. Maplins do a decent enough cable for a tenner, which might seem a lot but you’re only ever going to buy one so quit yer moaning. Serious audophiles wouldn’t flinch at paying 200 notes for an interconnect so just count yourself lucky you’re not that anal/stupid.

Right, I hope this wee bit of info. has been of some use and helps you to get the most of what we do. And of course, if you have any useful suggestions for your fellow listeners – PS3/Xbox streaming advice especially welcome – then please leave a comment below. Or if you just want to show off and post a picture of your equipment then go on right ahead.

Happy listening.

Cheers

Siege Mentality @ The Castle, Aldgate E1 – Saturday 9th March

So this month we’re bringing along some special guests…flying down from Manchester in his private Learjet we have Plimsoll Records’ very own Matt Hoods, and catching the bus replacement service from Cardiff is Marky De Sade.

Of course the usual residents Ringo, Andrea, Del Gazeebo, Mr Black & James Remote will be down too and it goes without saying this will be a mahooosive night so stick it into your calendar now!

As usual we kick off at 10pm, and finish at the end. Door tax £2 after midnight, free before.

Getting involved with Purple Radio in 2013

We’re always on the look out for enthusiastic, original DJs to join the Purple Radio ranks, so if you’re passionate about the music you play and would like to share it with an audience of millions (realistically it’s more like a big group of VERY sound people, so what’s not to like), leave a message here or seek out Mr Black on our forum right now.

If you need any advice regarding recording, uploading or anything else involved with putting a mix together simply drop by our forum where you’ll find a whole gaggle of Purple Radio people who claim to know what they’re talking about.

We look forward to hearing your stuff.

Cheers

Purple Radio’s Christmas Knees Up – Friday 21st December

London-types – northern monkeys also welcome – should stagger straight from humiliating themselves (again) at the office party to the Railway Tavern, Tulse Hill for yet more festive binge drinking and wearing of stupid party hats. We’ll be there until way past when you really should have left, and ours is a pint of egg nog. Cheers!
